DEQ invites public input on proposed permanent rule amendments to chapter 340 of the Oregon Administrative Rules to adopt standards for new medium- and heavy-duty diesel engines. These requirements have already been adopted in California.
This rulemaking proposes to adopt by reference the following California rules, including:
- The Advanced Clean Trucks rule, which would require manufacturers of medium- and heavy-duty vehicles to sell a certain percentage of zero emission vehicles. In Oregon, this would begin with the 2025 model year.
- The Heavy-Duty Low NOx Omnibus rules, which would require heavy-duty vehicle manufacturers to comply with tougher NOx emission standards, overhaul engine testing procedures and further extend engine warranties to ensure NOx emissions are reduced.
- Updates to the low emission vehicle program rules to ensure they are identical to California’s current light-duty vehicle emission standards.
