On September 4, 2019, the Washington State Department of Ecology announced a new round of VW Settlement funding targeting state and local government facilities. The program seeks to accelerate EV adoption in both public and private vehicle fleets throughout the state by expanding access to public charging sited at government facilities. The program will cover both Level 2 and DC fast charging stations at these locations and grants will be awarded on a competitive basis. Applications for this round of funding are due by November 7, 2019 and awards will be issued in January 2020.

Washington has awarded $13.3 million out of the state’s total $112.7 million allocated through the VW Settlement to go towards the purchase of electric transit buses across several transit agencies. This new program marks Washington’s first funding allocation for charging infrastructure through the settlement. Overall, 15 percent of the state’s total funds, roughly $16 million, is available to expand the charging network.
