Globally, road transport accounts for more than 60 million direct jobs, representing over 2% of global employment. Freight makes up a large proportion of these jobs – by 2030, light truck or delivery service drivers are predicted to be the second largest growing jobs globally. The transition to electric transport is underway, and the changes are bringing new workforce challenges and opportunities.
This white paper, ‘Good, green jobs: Preparing for an inclusive electric freight workforce’, focuses on assessing the workforce implications of decarbonising and electrifying the urban freight sector in North and Latin America. It gives an overview of what the common workforce needs, barriers, inclusivity opportunities, and training requirements are likely to be, and highlights public and private sector case studies which have the potential to address these evolving workforce requirements. Finally, there are high-level recommendations for cities and the private sector to support the creation and growth of good, green jobs in urban freight.
C40 Cities will be discussing its new white paper on the electric freight workforce on Tuesday, March 25th.
