The North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) has released their Draft Mitigation Plan that outlines the state’s intended use of their $30.68 Million settlement. The DEQ proposes to allocate investment in phases, using 30% of overall funds during their Phase 1 period (2018-2020).

During Phase 1 the DEQ will allocate funds through five different programs as follows:

  • School bus replacement program: 35%
  • Transit bus replacement program: 20%
  • Clean heavy-duty on-road equipment program: 10%
  • Clean heavy-duty off-road equipment program: 15%
  • Zero Emission Vehicle Infrastructure: 15%

The DEQ is seeking input on this draft plan through five stakeholder information sessions and e-mail comments to: daq.NC_VWGrants@ncdenr.gov.

The DEQ will accept comments through May 3, 2018.
