Four FirstEnergy utilities in Pennsylvania filed supplements to existing tariffs in January 2019 that establish third-party owned charging station designations. Supplements were filed by Metropolitan Edison Company, Pennsylvania Electric Company, Pennsylvania Power Company, and West Penn Power Company. The Pennsylvania PUC approved all four filings in February 2019, removing barriers for third-party electric vehicle charging station ownership and operation. The order exempts the charging at third-party owned charging stations from being considered resale of electricity. It also establishes standards for installation and grid integration.
